Life and death - a gory tale

I hope you've now finished your meal... One of the thousands of Large White caterpillars in the garden had managed to get inside the house and pupate on the towel rail in the kitchen. Just as we found it, so did a parasitic wasp. The wasp pierces the skin of the pupa and lays its eggs inside where they will feed on the Large White as a result of which it will not disgorge a butterfly but number of new gall wasps. Such is life - and death...

Oh John, that is totally gross - and on an empty stomach too. Remind me not to look at your blog in future, until I have had something to eat!
