Southern Hawkers

I am really impressed with Helen and Ian's garden generally but especially the pond. And I am not the only one who is impressed - the dragonflies are as well. Despite the pond only having been filled at the start of April three species of dragonfly have already been seen ovipositing. Earlier in the year Emperor and Common Darter laid their eggs in it and today a female Southern Hawker was seen to oviposit for ages on the wooden edging.

Earlier in the afternoon a male was hawking around and stopped briefly on the house wall.
